JUST ANNOUNCED SYA Cardinal Cup Passback Program!!!
Collections will take place at at team check-in and all fields.

Are your closets filled with Old Cleats, Shin Guards and Uniforms?
DONATE THEM TO PEOPLE IN NEED!

Your gently used equipment may help someone else play for the first time!   Passback will be set up at tournament registration and all fields to collect your gently used equipment. All equipment will then be donated to youth organizations that are in need of equipment so they can play the game we all love!  We collected over 500 pieces of equipment last year which was distributed to sites in Kenya and Mexico. This year we are teaming up with a US solider in Iraq who has built his own field of Dreams for the local kids to enjoy. They are looking for small sized cleats and equipment including all size 3 & 4 balls. And as always we will take any other sizes of uniforms, balls, cleats, socks, shin guards, bags, cones, etc.
Any questions please contact Averys4soccer@aol.com

Who is SYA?
Southwestern Youth Association Information

Southwestern Youth Association (SYA) is one of Virginia’s finest and most complete soccer clubs with age/skill appropriate training and competition for all levels of play.  In Spring 2006, SYA opened the first three fields at its Fields of Dreams Athletic Complex.  The Cardinal Cup has helped support this field development project.

SYA has developed some of Virginia’s top teams with Virginia State Cup Champions and Finalists, as well as champions and finalists of some the region and nation’s top tournaments.  SYA consistently supplies Virginia with talented players for ODP State, Regional and US National teams, as well as players continuing play at some of the nation’s top college programs.  SYA boasts one of the strongest coaching staffs, with USSF A, B and C licensed coaches, ODP State and Regional Coaches and former national, professional and college players and coaches.  SYA is also home to a Virginia/DC Hall of Fame Inductee... Be Sun SmartSM: Protect Yourself from the Sun

Sun Safety Facts - Skin cancer affects 1 in 5 Americans, and more than 1 million new cases are diagnosed each year. Of these cases, more than 108,230 are melanoma, a cancer that will claim 8,110 lives this year. Skin cancer is a threat particularly for soccer players and their fans because of the many hours spent in the midday sun, a major risk factor for developing the condition.

Sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer. You can have fun in the sun and Be Sun SmartSM. Here’s how to do it...

PASSBACK COLLECTIONS AT CARDINAL CUP A HUGE SUCCESS!
Special thanks to Taylor and Rachel Avery for organizing and running this program
Not only did we have great competition at the 2008 Cardinal Cup, a great cause was helped by collecting gently used soccer equipment.  This equipment will then be sent to children in need in Northern Iraq and other areas.  The Pass Back equipment collected over the Cardinal Cup weekend was: 171 pairs of cleats, 125 soccer balls, over 75 complete uniform kits, and lots of other usable clothing and equipment.

Our first distribution has been sent to a city in Northern Iraq and should arrive any day now.

The Erbil Soccer Academy  was presented  with 25 soccer balls, 30 pairs of cleats, 25 complete SYA travel uniform kits, and other essential gear. The founder of the academy, Rick Nidel has been in touch with us and has presented Taylor and Rachel Avery, organizers of this program, with an Iraqi National Team kit in gratitude for our donation.

The academy program, for ages 6-12, has grown to 28 kids. They play on a small sided field that is aptly named "Field of Dreams".  From Coach Rick: "Your continued support is most welcome. The boys in Iraq really love you all, even though they have never met you.

Below is a photo of some of the guys.

Thanks to all that made this donation and others possible.
